TCR was conceived in 2014 by Marcello Lotti and launched by WSC, which is the owner of the TCR name, trademark and Technical Regulations. TCR is reserved for production cars with a 4/5-door saloon or hatchback body that are powered by a 2-litre turbocharged-engine with output limited to 340bhp.

Starting in 2015 with the TCR International Series, the category quickly proliferated across Touring Car racing globally, becoming one of the most successful business cases in motorsport history.

WSC developed a set of technical regulations based on the most popular production models available on the market, with the aim of unifying touring car competition on a global scale, making it affordable and close racing at the same time.

The TCR category makes it possible to race with the very same car on circuits in the four corners of the earth while offering team owners a value for money investment.

The EVOLUTION

Despite the launch of the concept dates back to ten years now, the popularity of TCR is far from waning, as new regional and national championships are converting to the category.
The next logical step has been to reinforce the bounds between WSC and the different promoters with the launch of the Kumho TCR World Tour that gives the opportunity to the competitors of the local championships to measure themselves with the cream of the international drivers. An innovative format that has met with general approval and led to the elevation of the World Tour to an FIA series from 2024.
